Air layering material like this is hard to find at the best of times.
With its powerful trunk approaching 50mm in diameter this was a much larger tree of about 26 years.
The material shows good promise to becoming some very nice shohin specimens of Zelkova. Perhaps as many as 4 can be air layerted from this.
It has an unusual nebari and has been growing well so it should fill in quite quickly. The wounds are healing  well and there is the option for developing a hollow trunk.
 
With a little more development it will be ready to put into a bonsai dish.
