Arakawa is famed for its spectacular bright red autumnal colours.
As far as age is concerned, I give this a conservative estimate of 35 years old and probably older.
This example of the Arakawa maple displays the colour even though it is in need of some restoration work.
Alternatively, it would make a good source of material for air-layering some shohin sized trees. (The yellow tape shows three to start with.)
It has excellent potential to grow into a more refined tree with a really good evenly rough bark.
It would make a great project for anyone wishing to test thier skills of growing maples.
Any collector realises the value of a tree such as this.
