This Itoigawa juniper is a good specimen of from Japan, aged around 10 yrs old. With a height of ±25cm, plus the apical shoot, it is ready to be trained into a stunning bonsai. This tree has a lot of potential and is suitable for both beginners and more advanced bonsaiists. Basic shaping has been done and some shari created. Some more growth and filling in is all that is needed to really bring this little tree to life.
The Itoigawa juniper has fine, mid green foilage. Its twisted trunks and branches lend themselves to dramatic deadwood effects. Excellent subjects for bonsai it can be shaped in many styles.Junipers are hardy in temperate areas. In areas where temperatures fall below -10°C (14°F), it will benefit from moving to a frost-free shed or greenhouse in winter. It does best if it is placed in full sun throughout the growing season with light shade during the very hottest days. During the winter, junipers can turn a brown or reddish colour when exposed to frost which is normal and will return to green when the weather warms again.
