A great, unusual sublect for small sized bonsai. Very easy to grow.
This particular plant has a great nebari and has thickened well over the year.
Small air-layers could be taken from the longer branches instead of just cutting them off and binning them.
A beautiful dwarfish elm, Ulmus x hollandica 'Jacqueline Hillier' is already a bonsai-like plant with it's dense spreading habit and small, dainty, finely toothed green leaves.
This elm can be grown well as a bonsai and is also ideal for planting as a small garden tree, particularly effective in Japanese style gardens.
Position: Full sun or partial shade.
Soil: Well drained soil. (Akadama)
Hardiness: Hardy with some winter protection on smaller trees in pots.
Notes: Ulmus x hollandica 'Jacqueline Hillier' is unaffected by Dutch elm disease.
