Today at the Tunnel 9th September 2023

Well what a scorcher. I though yesterday was bad enough when John and I were trying to do some odd jobs at the tunnel but at least there was a little bit of cloud which was a relief.

When it got to 36C today in the shady end of the tunnel I had to give up and decided to come home before I burnt to a crisp.

It was touching 40C outside and still rising so for the sake of my health and safety I called it a day and started on my way home with the air-con in the van going full tilt. Phew!!

The automatic misters at the tunnel are keeping everything from dying in the heat and have been an absolute Godsend since Fernando installed the system for me last year.

Don't forget to take measures to cool your bonsai down in this heat. The pot temperatures are reaching 50C which will cook the roots. Trees generally shut down in high temperatures in order to preserve water but this means that they don't transpire properly and therefore cannot cool themselves by water evaporation through the leaves.
