Satsuki production at the tunnel. 12/Jul/23

Updated: Jul 21, 2023

Satsuki azalea cuttings are still being taken. The second growth period of the satsuki gives an opportunity to continue propagating some of the stock plants and get them ready for next year. They will be rooted in a few weeks but I like to make sure that they get through their first winter before moving them on.

Last years new variety the double red flowered 'Saran' has proved popular so more of those are being done.

This year I have managed to get a few cuttings from my remaining young 'Kaho'. The plants have been responding well to the new soil mixture and are growing vigorously.

So far this year I have managed to obtain some new varieties ;-

'Sachi-no-Tsukasa which is a narrow petaled flower from the variegated red group. Its only small so it will be at least a year before cuttings are possible.

Kinsai and Shiryu-no-Homare are both 'spider' flowered varieties. Not usually something I go for but I thought they would be interesting to some people.

Kobai and Kirimeki are both varieties that are slow to get rooted and growing strongly. That's the reason the numbers are limited for them. If you come across any methods of getting them growing well I would be very interested to know about it.
